Sword through the chest

To lose your place as the best at a given subject, taken from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim quote:
"I used to be one of the best soldiers in the stormcloak army, then I took a sword through the chest."
Can be used in any situation where you have come off second best.
I used to be the best player on the football team, then I took a sword through the chest.

I used to be the best driver in the world, then I took a sword through the chest.

Non-follow-through-er

n. (var. non-follow-thru-er). Someone who does not "follow-through" with his or her words or promises. Typically an "idea" person so wrapped up in his/her ideas that s/he does not take the time to actually execute one. Also, someone who is "flakey."
My frustration with non-profit organizations is that they attract non-follow-through-er (s) who spend all day concocting ideas for change, and fractionally less time towards implementing those ideas.

rough tough cream puff

One of the many, many priceless contributions from R. Crumb - perhaps passed along by this misanthropic genius from someone else. It refers to a male with a ferocious posture, threatening gaze and aggressive stance, but a guy who will actually cave in and whimper when faced down in earnest.
Her hero was in fact a rough tough cream puff: he would threaten others and put on a big show but somehow never managed to get into actual fights. He was big and belligerent but basically a coward.

Thoughts and prayers

A phrase only used by Christians to people, generally other Christians, experiencing hardship. A statement implying action and assistance when in fact none will be forthcoming in any meaningful way. Represents vague promise to intercede with a magical being on the recipient's behalf. Used most often to end a conversation by the person saying it. Often ridiculed in social media as nonsense and hypocrisy, and misspoken as 'Thots and pears'.
I don't want to say 'you should have had your whole family vaccinated' at the funeral. I'll say 'thoughts and prayers' and then talk about the weather.
