Societal (pronounced səˈsʌɪɪt(ə)l) is an adjective meaning of, or relating to society or social relations; of, or relating to the structure, organisation or functioning of society or, when applied outside of society as a whole, it can mean of, or pertaining to a large social group, such as a club, or to their activities and customs.

This expression can be notably heard in the vintage R&B classics Groove Me by King Floyd (1971) and One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show by The Honey Comb (1971) — which may have been when the expression entered popular culture.

The ironically named character for the book and HBO series True Blood “Sookie Stackhouse” is the actual embodiment of this expression since every aspect of the definition applies to her pulchritudinous body.

One-Socking

Akin to the feeling of leaving the house wearing only one sock

1) When you only accomplish half of your intended purpose and are left in an embarrassing situation
2) When you finish a job poorly

I definitely one-socked (past tense) that essay, I hope it goes well.

I've really been one-socking it at the nuclear weapon factory. Hopefully my habit of one-socking doesn't bring about a premature end of the world.
