poetry 

1. An archaic form of literature, now dying off. Doggerel.

As practiced in modern times, poetry is a discredited means of (supposedly) communicating aesthetic thoughts or feelings in verbal form. Thousands, perhaps millions of person-hours, disc/server space, and trees are wasted to develop and store this tripe.

"Award winning" poetry is usually the worst kind, representing the vilest outcome of combining incestuous art-cronyism with self-indulgent self-promotion.

2. A complete waste of time.

Moses 

a prince of ancient Egypt (c. -1500) who wound up on the wrong side of Palace politics and joined up with a group of semites being driven from Egypt by the return of pharaonic government.

"Moses" means 'son' in Egyptian, as in Pharaoh Thutmoses ("son of Thoth") and Pharaoh Ramoses ("son of Ra").

Exodus 4:
21 And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

boat race 

A team-based drinking contest. Opposing teams (usu. 5 members each) sit opposite eachother along a table. At the gun, the first member of each team drinks their beverage (usu. beer) as quickly as possible. Upon completion, each player slams his/her mug to the table, signifying that the next teammate can begin their drink, like a relay race. At the end of the table, the last team member (called 'the Anchor') must complete two drinks before play proceeds back through each team (the 'return trip') until the first player of the winning team finishes his/her second drink.

We were doing boat races last night at the Student Union building, but Pete had four shots before we started and he couldn't finish the return trip.
