According to Thesaurus it's a synonym for "yellow-ish". Online it's mostly used when Non-native English speakers write stories (or roleplays) and try to be ridiculously fancy with their writing style.

"That writer is using 'xanthous' instead of yellow."

"Seriously? If someone uses xanthous in an RP with me I'm gonna block their a**."
