tacet

It is a term that, in Latin, means it is silent. Adopted by music theory meaning that an instrument doesn't play a large section in a song, or it doesn't play the song at all.
Playing Stevie Wonder is fun, but my bass line says tacet everywhere.

Tacet

A percussion instrument usually made of wood but sometimes constructed of aluminum. The tacet has many different variations and is usually played by gnashing the teeth together onto a leather strap which in turn, makes the noise that is it signature. Also spelled tacit, though only in European countries.
