syro-malabar

Syro-Malabar Catholics are heavily latinized Oriental Catholics from Kerala, India who consider themselves to be "Roman Catholic". They are the Indian diocese of the Church of the East (East Syriac Rite) that came in full communion with the Holy See of Rome in the 16th century. Syro-Malabarians employ the Liturgy of Ss. They are primarily of the Malayali ethnic group and speak Malayalam. Although there are a minority of Tamils, Telugus, and North Indians from the various eparchies in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, and northern & western India. Syro-Malabarians share the East Syriac liturgy with the Chaldean Catholics, Oriental Catholics from Iraq.
