snobfuscation

Where arrogant, entitled over educated idiots use references to obscure people, concepts or events with which they know their audience is unfamiliar (and which they don’t understand but heard about once at private school) to confuse an argument and then claim victory purely because their interlocutor is unfamiliar with their reference. See appeal to authority and dunning Kruger.

I don’t think Jeremy understood what we were talking about but he was engaging in snobfuscation with random references to Ancient Greek philosophers I’ve never heard of. I couldn’t really get to the bottom of his argument because he kept referring to random quotes and I didn’t know enough to disagree. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about because he had a posh accent. But he couldn’t simply outline his views.
