The software equivalent of being shanked in the kidney with a homemade knife-like weapon. Unreliable software that appears to be working fine, but when you least expect it, the software crashes on you when you most need it to not to.
The new software from our small company is homemade shivware at best.

Early editions of most Microsoft software was unreliable shivware.
