Someone who prefers the old way of doing things.
Someone who adheres strictly to tradition.

My mother is such a purist, she has to make everything from scratch when she cooks.

Purist

Someone who wants no change to their favorite video game series. They are the reason why some series become stagnant with no new ideas because fanboys whine about them, so when the new games come out, they can complain about how similar it is to predecessor and thrive on old games. They contribute absolutely nothing to the future of video games.

While it's true that great games should never change their formula to the point that it alienates their fans, purists take it too far and seem to be against any good new ideas that may affect their series in one way or the other.

Purists will whine about any new change that comes their way. Whether it was multiplayer in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, third party characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, or any idea not mentioned by the creators for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, a purist will continue to whine that their series must stay the same until we all die.

A country purist expects all country music to be honky-tonk and feeling sorry for yourself. A punk purist expects all punk to anarchist and government-hating. A metal purist expects all metal to be about fantasy things like dragons and knights, or about sex, drugs, and rock and roll and have instrumental solos. An R&B purist expects all R&B to have horns in the music. A rap/hip hop purist expects all rap/hip hop to have swearing and bragging. A jazz purist expects all jazz to be instrumental only. A pop purist expects all pop to be like the teen pop of the 1980s and 1990s. A folk/ singer/songwriter purist expects all folk/singer/songwriter albums to just the singer's voice and either an acoustic guitar, a piano, or all three of these.

-Third jerseys are a crime against tradition and are only used to make money.

Purist

In politics , a purist is a person who wants their candidates or social advocates to be pure and exact to their ideologies . They may get mad and criticize their own candidates/ social advocates when they go a bit off track. Their candidates / social advocates may even try to dialogue with the opposition , something that anger purists . This counts for all political ideologies.

"Dude, Bernie Sanders endorses Hillary. He totally betrayed us."

"I don't like how this conservative governor treats so good the LGBT+ community"

This slang term "purist" refers to the persons who deem that selfies must be taken by using the photo booth known as "purikura", hence the etymology of this slang. Such persons have once been raised by strict screen time limits imposed by parents, hence these persons' reluctance to use smartphone to take selfies instead.

My friends were all about using their smartphones for selfies, but I’m a total purist—I only take my pics in the purikura booth!
