A Niner Premiership is won when a team narrowly misses out on being part of the top 8 teams that go through to the finals of the
competition. Despite it being a sort of
consolation prize, it is often used tongue in cheek to ridicule a sporting team that finds themselves at this part of the
competition table, often continually.
At the close of the regular 2019
Australian Rugby League season, the Wests Tigers had declined to 9th, winning the Niner Premiership again - their second year in a row and their 6th since
inception.
