acid and a byproduct is chlorine
gas (if hydrochloric
acid isn't used, then you will get the haloform reaction). MDP2P can also be synthesized by a grignard reaction of 3,
4-MethyleneDioxyBenzyl magnesium chloride (formed from 3,
4-Methylenedioxybenzyl chloride and magnesium turnings in diethyl ether) and acetonitrile followed by hydrochloric
acid work-up. MDP2P can also be synthesized from
wacker oxidation of safrole. Reaction of MDP2P with an ethanol solution of ethylamine and Aluminum Galinstan amalgam reduces the MDP2P-ethylimine intermediate into MDEA. 3,
