Kitschedelia

Music categorized as kitschedelia often employs overtly cheesy, tacky, or low brow humor in combination with the experimentation and perception altering characteristics of psychedelic music. The effect of kitschedelia is often meant to confound and challenge the listener and can be heavily conceptual. The genre also has roots in plunderphonics and culture jamming.

Much of the output of The Residents could fall into the category of kitschedelia due to the group's hallucinatory deconstruction of commercial and popular music.

As an art movement, lifestyle, or literature and film genre, kitsch is pleasingly distasteful. It's melodramatic, overdone, gaudy and tacky or sentimental and folksy. It's so bad that it's cool. Your cat might attack it, but it's hot.
And, no, Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer are NOT bad enough to be kitsch. At all. Paris and Nicole though...

Kitsch is a style of mass-produced art or design using cultural icons. The term is generally reserved for unsubstantial or gaudy works, or works that are calculated to have popular appeal.

Slang:
tasteless, lowbrow, tacky.
a tacky or lowbrow quality or condition.

Technically, Kitsch is a term that has been used to categorize art that is considered an inferior copy of an existing style. The term "kitschy" is also used more loosely in referring to any art/thing/or person that is pretentious or in bad taste, and also commercially produced items that are considered trite or crass.

As a child, I considered my mother's ornaments a bit kitschy, but when I took them to the Antiques Road show I discovered that they were valuable.
