Gourdeostasis

The process by which the world maintains a natural balance of gourds. A certain portion of the world's mass MUST be contributed by gourds. If at any point the gourd level is too high, our world naturally expels excess gourd into space. These gourds gravitate back to earth in the event our gourd level reaches crucially low levels.
Three quarters of America's defense budget is dedicated to Gourdeostasis.
