Effexor (Venaflaxine) is one of the more hardcore antidepressants out there. Works like magic if nothing else works well or if you have side effects to drugs such as prozac and zoloft. Should work very well. Not addictive, but do not try to stop yourself from taking Effexor immediately as you will have horrid withdrawl effects. I take 225 mg and once I stopped, I felt lightheaded, had brain zaps, horrible nightmares, and had my body twitch uncontrollably from head to toe as if I could feel electrcity running through my nerves, so definatly wean yourself off the drug instead of stopping. Some people are eventually able to live without Effexor, while me on the other hand would be in a consistant low and depressed state even after weaning ourselves off the drug.
Effexor is a good and strong antidepressant, but stopping it immediatly will cause withdrawl symptoms that make you feel possesd by satan, even though the drug js not addictive.

The Monster of All Antidepressants. More meager drugs may not suffice after this
Going back on Effexor for the 4th or 5th time in about 12 years dealing with some other tough health stuff that effects my mind and well-being.
Works like nothing else.
Can be really great.
The going off brain zap side effects aren't that bad with me.

Maybe a few days and the feeling wasn't that terrible.
Remember or realize that most people who have POSITIVE experiences with meds or things in general
don't often bother too write about them online.

people with negative experiences tend to write a lot more I think.
So, there's a bias there.
Sexual side effects for men yes. Wellbutrin can help. May not be bad if you have PE, can slow you down.
Going off though caused me PE.

Would agree if all else fails and you need it, go for it, IF YOU NEED IT. I did well for almost a year off of it and even did OK through a tough breakup going off of it after 10 years, so you may not necessarily be doomed to be on it forever.

Just try and balance it out and any of this stuff with as much good nutrition and exercise as you can.
Oh, forgot: night sweats on this too, fun..
Meditation and the teachings on the realities of this world we create in our minds, by this guy they called "Awake" 2,500 years ago are very helpful to me.
Be well.

Effexor (venlafaxine) is an antidepressant structurally unrelated to other antidepressnants. It blocks the re-uptake
of Serotonin and Norepinephrine and Dopamine to a lesser extent. Can be very useful in treating depression and anxiety together. One major downfall is that once this medication is discontinued, you will then suffer hellish withdrawl effects for weeks.

yes, it's an antidepressant. yes, it works; yes, it really does. especially at the highest doses. yes, it works when nearly everything else doesn't work. even the most emo of emo kids will cheer up and stop cutting themselves at 450 mg/day.

the only things more powerful are:

1. ect, where they fry your brain with electricity; it does work; but the downside is that you lose any recollection of the past few months, and you have to keep getting it for it to work
-or-
2. the maois; of course, with the maois, if you drink wine, beer, eat aged cheese, or take any other sort of medication, your blood pressure goes to 300/240 and your head explodes, so they have to keep you in the **happy**place** while they use the maois on you.

downside to effexor:
1. if you're taking a low dose, and you're a man, forget about getting it up easily. on the other hand, at a high enough dose (300-450 mg), the problems actually seem to go away.
+and+
2. it has the absolute worst withdrawal of any antidepressant. you feel brainzaps for a few weeks to years, in addition, you're woozy and f'ed up. you're an addict, or you're miserable.

conclusion:

it's the bomb in the war on depression. like THE BOMB. the big one. the one with a big red button. it will fuck your depression over. just remember that it comes with fallout. you'll probably be taking those pills for the next 50 years or so.

is it worth it? maybe. if nearly everything else doesn't work.

you can take the blue pill, and go back to the matrix, or take the red pill, and see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

but don't say i didn't warn you.
omg i only have one day left of effexor! (call pdoc frantically: NEED REFILL NEED REFILL!)

Effexor is an antidepressant that works VERY well, when i take it the only downsides are headaches and insomnia. other than that all i feel is constant euphoria for hours on end. it's highly mentally addictive though, once your on it and suddenly stop youll have weeks of withdrawls and moodiness and anxiety and headaches and feeling sick a lot.
person 1: man im inlove with effexor, but once it wears off i feel like I'll die if i stop taking it
person 2: wow, maybe you should stop taking it if it only helps you when your on it
person 1: hell no! this feeling is way to great

antidepressants, first you get headaches, then you can start feeling like you're not every full meaning you feel like eatting all the time meaning weight gain. Then the pill can also raise your blood pressure. Sometimes you get depressed after taking it for a year. It's also recommended to stay on for a year so if you start and don't have serious problems with it then you're probably going to be stuck with it. O and when you don't take it then you get really bad headaches or just feel like you have a fever the whole day.
