disaster porn 

Noun. When the media puts horrific or tragic images on a 24 hour loop, constantly driving them into your head, and then refers to the events portrayed as an "unspeakable tragedy" . .. .despite the fact that they have four different talking heads analyzing it 24 hours a day. Often times disaster porn is used to generate financial support. Most commonly associated with 9/11, where every mention of the "terrorist outrage" was followed by an infomercial for NYPD t-shirts and American flag bumper stickers.

"This is just horrible. I can't even bear to look." Said Geraldo Rivera as he rewound the disaster porn tape of the World Trade Center collapsing for the 10,000th time that day. "Buy 'I LOVE AMERICA' bumper stickers and NYPD hats now!"

What you see on TV when the news channels go into 24-hour disaster mode. As a viewer, you respond as you do for flesh porn -- you can't turn your eyes away, you keep coming back to it, you never are fulfilled after watching it, and you feel bad inside when you're done. For examples of disaster porn, withess Fox's coverage of the hurricanes of 2005, or CNN/Fox/MSNBC for the Sept 11, 2001 terror attacks.

I've watched the last 2 weeks of hurricane disasterporn.

In addition to the above defintion, this term is also used in the debate community (particularly policy debate) to describe how debaters tend to get happy and excited when they hear of bad news they can somehow use to an advantage in a debate.
There is a kritik about this, because it could be considered somewhat immoral to derive enjoyment from another's suffering.

1.Debater1- "Did you hear? Five people were killed yesterday after the government mismanaged their healthcare... I've found some awesome evidence from this that'll really boost our case! We're gonna kick those other team's a$$es!"
Debater2 *looking at computer screen*-"Whoa, sh*t, man, that's some serious disasterporn there. I like it."
Debater3-"Y'know, that's sort of wrong you're so happy about this... but what the hell, I'm using that evidence too!"
Deaber4 *sighing at this perceived immaturity* -"If this was a debate I'd run a kritik on you guys right now."
