The antonym of accentuate. More explicitly avoiding than de-emphasizing something.

We realize this was part of the strategy initially, but since it's become less relevant, we have decided to decentuate from our program goals.

verb. To make, cause, or act upon to create a demented state; to cause dementia.

Past tense: dementiated

The patient has become so dementiated that she doesn't even know what is going on anymore.

The progression of dementiation often increases with age.

Deccentuate 

• The use of inauspicious items to help conceal one’s natural appearance.

• Use of makeup, wigs, hair dye and clothing are used to alter or help disguise one’s identity.

Usually with visual appearance that is typically unflattering to detract ones visual beauty;

Actions and tools used to change appearance to try and blend in plain site;

The concealing ones natural appearance by use of wigs; hair dye; clothing and more; all in an effort to conceal ones actual appearance.

Big and baggy clothes deccentuate a persons body type.

A text message or other social media posting that gives false hope to others.

Man I had a lot of hope that there were going to be survivors of the Korean Ferry Sinking or the Malaysian Airline Crash because of all the news reports about Deceptatext.
