Counter-productive

1)When you are doing something productive or being productive near a counter or a counter-like surface.

Objects can also be counter productive, as in shelves or knife-holders.

2)When you are productive near something that has counting abilities or data-collecting abilities.

Contrary to popular belief, this does not have a negative connotation.

That organizer Ned bought from the store was very counter-productive!

Mary, you are so counter-productive in the kitchen with your excellent cooking!

The scientists are very counter-productive with that machine that records data by counting each trial!

The sudden attraction to attaining knowledge on arbitrary subjects via Internet Search Engines to fill time that should otherwise be spent achieving practical electronic goals.

Counterproductive Workplace Behaviour

This is behaviour on the part of an employee or employees that works against the legitimate interests of the organisation that employs them or indeed their own interests. This sort of behaviour is detrimental to the organisation, its employees, clients and customers. It is believed that persons with a tendency to experience anger are more likely to respond to a stressful situation, such as being treated unfairly with counterproductive workplace behaviour.

When the supervisor blamed Charlie for his own mistake, Charlie deliberately jammed all three photocopiers in a fit of counterproductive workplace behaviour.

counterproductive advertising

Those lame,local TV ads that drive customers away due to their amateurish,home-made,ridiculous,and downright embarrassing nature. Typically a low budget advertisement featuring the business owner dressed up as a clown,a king or a mattress. Often features the business owners kids or other family members.

Those Mister Mattress TV spots are counterproductive advertising.I'd never buy anything from that fool.

Any advertisement that causes the viewer to boycott the product rather than purchase it. They usually cause people to cringe with disgust when they see them. This does NOT include the Snuggie and the Shamwow T.V. ads(and a few select others) because they were so over the top, which made people want to buy them as a joke.

Snorgtees, The General Insurance, That new evil Cheeto's Cheetah, Mr. Mucus Mucinex, That one fungus commercial with the animated green blob living under your toenail, various internet spam popups, Head On, and many more depending on viewer opinion.

Person: "I can't stand that guy's voice who does the Carls Jr. commercials with all the messy burgers. He makes me want to eat at Jack-in-the-Box."
