An individual who studies birds in human care with a focus on welfare and behaviour rather than the traditional focus on just breeding.

Person 1 : That guy is an aviculturist, he keeps birds...

Person 2: No, he's an Aviologist, he studies and develops progressive, evidence based, welfare driven husbandry plans not based simply on breeding being the sole outcome or objective.

Person 1: Sounds like the future.
