association fallacy

An illegitimate child between ad hominem (because association fallacy focused on the PERSON or PEOPLE instead of the ARGUMENT), appeal to emotion, hasty generalization, questionable cause fallacy (because "labels" associated to someone or something can determine the degree of "truth"), and red herring (because it deliberately derails the argument)

Association Fallacy has two kinds:
1. Guilt by association
2. Honour by association
Example of association fallacy:

"You're Neo-Nazi, therefore your argument must be wrong" (Godwin's Law/Reductio ad Hitlerum)
"You are leftist liberal special snowflake, therefore your argument is dismissed" (Red-bait/Red-tag)
"You're the expert, therefore your opinion must be right" (Honour by association)

association fallacy

When someone's character, actions, or opinions are judged SOLELY based on a group or person they are associated with, rather than their own merits or actions. Essentially, it's assuming that negative traits of one individual or group automatically apply to others who are connected to them.
Works on the basis of things other than people, (ideas, groups, etc.)
Association fallacy on the basis of people:
John James has a brother who committed fraud and petty theft, so we should really keep an eye on John because he probably learned a thing or two from his brother!
Didn't Bob Generic spend some time in that labor union? Yeah, we should kick him out before he starts spouting off stuff about eating the rich!
Association fallacy on the basis of ideas:
The Conservative Party has deep ties to traditionalism, nationalism, and anti-communism. Y'know who else did? THE NAZIS! LOCK THOSE GENOCIDAL, RACIST BASTARDS UP!
The Democratic Party has deep ties to liberalism and worker's rights. Y'know who else did? THE COMMIES! LOCK THOSE GENOCIDAL, OPPRESSIVE BASTARDS UP!

Synthetic Association Fallacy

The synthetic association fallacy is an association fallacy which asserts by irrelevant association that the synthesis or product of two seperate elements is always the exact same as the grouping of those two separate elements. (Correction of Fallacy: Although A is within B and is also within C, not all synthesises/products of B and C, are A)
Synthetic Association Fallacy: all apple-banana mixes are apple-banana juice.
Correction: Although apple-banana juice is within "Apple-contained items" and is also within "Banana-contained items", not all items containing both apples and bananas are apple-banana juice.
SA Fallacy: all market-oriented socialisms are market socialism.
Correction: Although market socialism is a type of socialism and is also market-oriented, not all market-oriented socialisms (socialist ideologies) are market socialist.
SA Fallacy: All conservative Christians are right-wing (of the Christian Right).
Correction: Although the Christian Right is a conservative moment and is also a Christian movement and almost all conservative Christians are right-wing, not all conservative Christian movements are of the Christian Right.

Correction: (for example, Christian Socialism is both conservative and supposedly Christian but obviously isn't of the Christian Right because it isn't capitalist)

Fallacy of Analogy by Association

The flawed reasoning that because two distinct entities share a single, often superficial, action or trait, they are therefore equivalent in all important aspects. It crushes nuance and context to force a false identity. This is the tool of lazy smears and reductive arguments, used to guilt-by-analogy or glorify-by-analogy without engaging with the actual substance of either X or Z.
Example: "The Nazi regime built highways and promoted national fitness. The current government is building highways and promoting national fitness. Therefore, the current government is Nazi." This Fallacy of Analogy by Association ignores the vast, fundamental differences in ideology, context, and ultimate goals, focusing on one narrow point of similarity to make a monstrous comparison.

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
Some grebo passed with Sabbath playing on his stereo.
The Poppies are at no. 17? God, a grebo band in the charts!
They're playing nu-metal now, bloody grebos!
