Starfighter

One of the best space/yaoi web comics out there. It follows the story of a fighter and navigator, named Cain and Abel, respectively. It is written by HamletMachine on DeviantArt, and can also be found on starfightercomic.com. The first 5-6 panels depict their first meeting, while panels 7-20 describe their first space battle together. Panels following that depict the aftermath of the battle, and some semi-mature content between the two men.

The first mention of Starfighter was in the form of a concept page, posted on August 20, 2008. It has received over 15000 views since then.
"Did you hear that the new Starfighter panels are out?"

"No, I didn't. Are they good?"

"Of course they are! It's classic HamletMachine."

starfighter

Starfighter is one of a kind, a person who cannot be explained or understood, he simply is what he is, he is the weirdest person you will ever meet, and his actions are constantly confusing, puzzling, and highly strange. Starfighter will often talk to himself in almost a different voice as if another personality has taken over. Starfighter above all has no shame. Starfighter is also known as the terminator due to his eating habits.

starfighter pilot

Without a doubt, the absolute best profession that a person can have. Involves flying around in a small spacecraft and using your various inhuman skills and ridiculously named weapons to shoot down bad spacecraft, preferably piloted by evil aliens. In addition, starfigher pilots must speak in ludicrous pseudo military flight speak. Examples of starfigher pilots exist in Star Wars, Wing Commander, Battlestar Galactica, and The Last Starfighter.

Also the topic of a song by Snow Patrol.

--X-Wing Starfighter--

The Incom T-65 X-wing starfighter has become a symbol of the Rebellion's starfighter corps. Pressed into service time and again, the typical Alliance X-wing shows the scars from previous engagements, though the fact that it still performs as an advanced vessel of space superiority is indication of the ruggedness of the craft.

The sleek fuselage of the X-wing starfighter is 12.5 meters long. The long, narrow spaceframe is flanked in the aft quarter by four massive realspace engines. Each engine has an aerodynamic S-foil mounted on it. The wings not only serve as stabilizer surfaces in air travel, but also distribute deflector shield energy and serve as weapons mounts. The surface of each S-foil bears squadron and fighter markings.

Located midway through the ship is the X-wing's cockpit module. Behind the X-wing's cockpit is an astromech socket. The astromech droid provides astrogation data for the fighter's hyperdrives, and serves as a co-pilot and technician during flight. Three landing gears extend when the fighter is docked.

Y-wing starfighter

Despite its age, the ship has been one of the mainstays of the Rebel Alliance and saw notable duty at the Battle of Yavin, during which the Imperial Death Star was destroyed. Prior to the introduction of the X-wing starfighter, Y-wings were the flagship fighters of the Alliance. The twin-engine Y-wing, at sixteen meters long, is a multipurpose ship that was originally designed as a compromise between a full-fledged attack fighter and a heavier bomber. The durable starfighter can give and take a great deal of punishment, but they don't have the payload capacity or the speed, stealth, and the maneuverability to compete with modern Imperial attack fighters. The Rebel Alliance has flown more Y-wings than any other fighter and has used a number of different configuration for a variety of mission profiles. It isn't uncommon for a Y-wing to be stripped down for assault runs against Imperial convoys and then be refitted by rebel technicians for a heavy bombing run against an imperial base. Y-wings also find use on diplomatic escort missions and for long-range patrols. The BTL-A4 Y-wing (LP), or Long-Probe-Class, has extra provisions, more powerful sensors, and a sophisticated navigation computer specifically for patrol duty. The Y-wing has three main components. The forward cockpit module houses the pilots and weaopons systems. A reinforced space-frame central spar stretches back from the cockpit module; the Y-wing's ionization reactor and hyperdrive/astrogation hardware are crammed into this narrow frame. A cross wing housing the main power cells ataches at the back of the spar, with the two powerful sublight ion drives on either end. The cockpit module has thick armor plating. The pilot controls a pair of forward laser cannons and twin proton torpedo launchers. A turret-mounted ion cannon is directly behind the pilot. Like the X-wing, an R2 or R4 astromech droid fits snugly into the droid socket behind the cockpit and monitors all fight, navigation, and power systems. The droid can also handle fire control, perform simple inflight maintenance, and reroute power as needed. The R2 unit also stores hyperspace jump coordinates.

--A-Wing Starfighter--

With its sleek arrow-head shape, streamlined cockpit and massive twin engines, the A-wing starfighter suggests raw speed even when parked within Alliance hangar bays. Faster than even the TIE interceptor, the A-wing is well suited for lightning strikes. It sports a pair of pivoting laser cannons on each wingtip. The starfighters of Green Squadron, which flew in the Battle of Endor, were made up of A-wing starfighters.
