Stage Science

A form of scientific activity that is designed not to discover truth but to produce predetermined outcomes, usually to support a commercial, ideological, or reputational interest. Stage science includes biased study design, selective reporting, p‑hacking, and the use of controlled conditions that do not reflect reality. The term highlights how the structure of the research—who funds it, who designs it, who interprets it—is rigged to ensure a particular result. Stage science is the opposite of open, self‑correcting science; it is science as theater.
