Paver
Donut (Pastry):
A donut with a hole in it is called a paver or ring
donut. It is nicknamed a paver because it looks like a concrete paver
donut which, protects sprinkler heads from movers, edgers or vehicular damage.
A "paver" is made from dough, usually fried, and can be glazed or decorated.
A paver
donut is of the edible variety that can be bought from a
donut (or doughnut) store or grocer.
The ring (hole) is cut out to allow for proper cooking so that an even temperature is achieved. Kind of in the same way that bagels are also made with holes except the way in which the holes are made.
A paver is usually referring to a glazed donut but, it doesn'
t have to be glazed. It's just the most common.
Pavers is plural for multiple donuts of this variety.
Examples:
"Let's
stop by the Kalache shop and pick up two dozen pavers for the
crew".
"I'll take 2 pavers and a dozen donut holes".
"Are you gonna eat that paver"?
"Let's hit up the sugar
shack for some pavers".
