Kumcheez

Kumcheez is a now-retired pop punk band known for their breakthrough album The Mall, hailed by critics as an elevated version of the Southern California pop punk sound popularized by acts such as blink-182. Adored by critics and fans alike, The Mall includes hits like "High School Sucks," "Cigarette," "Fogey," and "Z is for Xylophone." A poignant demo version of “Cigarette” gained traction in some circles, with a clip of the now-iconic chorus being circulated: "Cigarette/now you're my Nicorette/You know it will never be the same/cuz I just can't call your name." The original demo CD, presumably lost, is considered to be a Holy Grail of the pop punk world. Kumcheez is known for their 2019 performance at the Getty Center, where the crowd began a flash mob with a complex dance move dubbed “Cheezin’.”

While Kumcheez was on the path to mainstream success, internal conflicts between frontman Ketchup and bassist Kum arose following the very public arrest of Kum in a Chuck E. Cheese. In 2022 after a long bout of silence, the band announced publicly that the band had officially broken up.
Ketchup has pursued a solo pop music career, which gained little traction without the rebel teen edge of his bandmates. Kum has teased reunion tours, posting GoFundMe's to 'raise money' for such a venture, but it is unclear if this was merely an attempt to illegally elicit money from fans. It is rumored Cheez Fry began a secret lesbian affair with Ketchup's sister following the band's split.
