A type of disinformation where an exact quote is pulled from within a statement and presented as whole without the original context to mislead an audience. Named for media worker Maureen Dowd who has been caught doing this.
After President Bush said, "Have I made mistakes, no I haven't", Maureen Dowd wrote, "I heard it myself, Bush said, and I qoute, 'I made mistakes'" as a Dowdism.
