Debunking Dogmatism
The unquestioning acceptance of a set of debunking conclusions and methods, held without openness to revision. The debunking dogmatist treats the current skeptical consensus as final truth, dismisses any dissenting evidence as “already debunked” without review, and reacts to challenges with hostility. Dogmatism here means the debunker no longer thinks for themselves; they simply apply prefabricated responses from their chosen authority figures. It turns debunking from a practice into a doctrine.
Example: “When shown a study that complicated the standard narrative, she replied ‘that’s been debunked’ but couldn’t say when or by whom—debunking dogmatism, repeating a conclusion without memory of its justification.”
