Bougie bias
People convincing themselves that because something is expensive it must be of higher quality when actually it is not. A lot of times this is done to protect their own ego because they don't want to feel like a fool for overspending on something that didn't meet expectations. It explains price-quality heuristic and the concept of Veblen goods in a nice tidy little phrase.
You spent that much on a television? You got bougie bias. It's not that worth that much.
Bougie bias had me spending too much on my BMW and now I know it's not worth it.
All my girlfriend wants is designer label clothes, purses, and shoes, because she has bougie bias. I bought her shoes from Payless and put them in a designer box and she didn't know the difference.
