systemic, cultural, economic, legal, religious, or individual discrimination and prejudice against an individual, race, ethnic group, tribal group, nationality, members of a religious group, or ethnicity that has visibly brown or darker hues of skin color in their physical appearance as a result of elevated melanin levels in their skin

Anti-melanism has been used to subjugate and terrorize black and brown people in societies in Europe, Australia, North America, South America, Asia, Polynesia, and Africa.

U.S. Black people organized during the Civil Rights Movement to fight against the evils of the U.S. government-sanctioned anti-melantism during the Jim Crow era of U.S. History
