Acronymism

A temporary loss of focus followed by confusion when reading a news story containing an overabundance of acronyms.

Today I read a news article following up on the dramatic UFO/UAP topic and had an acronymism connecting the dots. Had to go back and reread what looked like alphabet soup.

Acronymlish

The English language reduced to acronyms. Mostly used in online instant messaging and cell phone text messaging, however Acronymlish is starting to invade verbal speech as well. For example how often do you hear people say "WTF" or "FML" or "GDMFer!". These are all examples of Acronymlish. My prediction is soon this new condensed version of the English language will replace our current way of speaking.

dude 1: "OMFG! WTF?? STFU!! GTFO!"

dude 2: "Quit talking in Acronymlish, you sound like a fucking retard."

Generally thought to be best avoided in most cases, certainly those not in extensive use, or those whose original phrasing was selected for it's poetic or prosaic beauty or clarity. Especially egregious are acronyms that have been "Reverse Acronymized", or cooked up from acronyms that happen to be words, but whose constituent words are contrived at best.

e.g "Office of Academic Freedom" become OAF
"Compound Acronymizing" is practiced by techie geeks, e.g. JXML

The use of an acronym in the form of a sentence, using upper case for the emphasis of the acronym.
Examples;
"Choosing Underhand Nasty Tactics"
"Following Utter Comedic Kings, Over Fellow Followers"
" Imagine, Living Over Valleys Evermore, Yielding Our Utopia"

The Acronymical sentence does not have to make sense, but it's genius when it can be done!

Try re-reading my text, the Acronymical sentence is what I really wanted to say
