When one observes a researcher conducting secondary research, it can be termed as engaging in tertiary research. This is not exclusive to academic researchers; anyone observing another person researching information on the internet can also be considered as conducting tertiary research.

Meta-Research

The study of research itself—its methods, reporting, biases, incentives, and cultural practices. Also called "research on research," it’s the science of how science gets done (and often goes wrong).
