People who thrive on bad news; who always want to be "in on the action" when there is a disaster/tragedy; who try to find any personal connection, no matter how remote, to the current tragedy; and who make things sound more serious/emotional/melodramatic than they really are -- as a way of drawing attention to themselves more than anything else.

Similar to, but more specific than a drama queen. A sympathy whore gravitates towards an event, be it a plane crash, flood, serious illness or the death of someone else.

Different from a drama ho.

"Oh my God! (sob) My brother's best friend's nephew was just killed in a car accident. (sob). It's just so awful...(sob). When is the funeral? (sob) No, I'd never met him, but I need to be there to support my brother. (wail)" -- example of a sympathy whore

Simpsonsquoteitis

The act of quoting various lines and script from "The Simpsons" repeatedly at any given moment when whatever is happening somehow reminds you of a Simpsons episode out of the hundreds of episodes you have memorized and cataloged in your brain. Usually this condition is uncontrollable and the quoter becomes a redundant speaking creature becoming closer still to using Simpsons quotes as a means of communication instead of language. These verbal regurgitates are met with varying reactions depending on whether the receiving party feels like joining in the quote-age. Some may recognize the quote but dismiss it, while others have been known to comment negatively on it, and then there are those unfortunate enough to not know what on earth you are talking about. These poor souls are to be pitied for their lack of Simpsonology. Remained unchecked this condition can potentially spiral out of control until the person is left believing the Simpsons' universe is real, becomes completely unpredictable and repeatedly sings the Itchy and Scratchy song.

sympathy seeking disorder

Sympathy Seeking Disorder. A made-up term obviously but, for those who don’t quite understand this, it refers to the person who dwells on the “woe is me” aspects of life. They are truly miserable; the eternal victim of life. They reserve the right to communicate their frustrations with their “wrong doer’s” publically to get sympathy, via social media; facebook in particular with extremely obvious status updates which they deem pseudo cryptic. They refuse to take responsibility for their own actions and appear incredibly weak.

All of her FB status's about karma and man bashing since her divorce lead me to believe that she suffers from a sympathy seeking disorder.
