Wanna be there
Utica, Ny: An Unsolicited Testimonial:
My Brooklyn grandsons, ages 4 and 6, complained to their parents over winter school break:
"Why don't we get to go on cool vacations like the other kids at school?"
"Like where?"
"Like Disney World, or Utica!"
A few things I like here:
good mom and pop restaurants at reasonable prices, affordable housing, New York City first run movies at the museum, good library in New Hartford, skiing right in town!,Saranac Brewing company, the four colleges and their many programs open to city residents,Sculpture Space and its cool parties, the Pratt School affiliation with the Munson Williams Proctor Institute, The Boilermaker Road Race (top 15 k run in America), and Utica's proximity to New York City,Boston, and other major center. Did I mention the great friends to be found in Utica?

Get the utica mug.A city in Upstate New York, incorporated in 1832, that is the population center of the Utica-Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Like many mid-sized cities in the Northeast and Rust Belt, Utica was a thriving manufacturing, political and cultural community in the late 19th and early-to-mid 20th century. After a period of decline, it has recently seen a wave of urban investment and redevelopment. Public and private investments totaling hundreds of millions of dollars include: a $480 million downtown medical center campus scheduled for completion in 2022, reclamation and residential development of multiple industrial-era buildings, an expanded downtown arena/auditorium that recruited professional hockey and indoor soccer franchises.
While challenges and lingering negativity stemming from decades of decline remain, the city is seeing increasing numbers of next-gen residential professionals and entrepreneurs. The international distance running community has known about the city's welcoming culture and upbeat summer vibe for decades, as Utica is home to one of the world's largest 15K competitions, the Boilermaker Road Race. And then there's the critically acclaimed FOOD, present in an astounding number of urban farm-to-fork, ethnic and international restaurants, cafes and eateries.

When someone asks me for an example of quintessential Utica, NY, cuisine, I point them to the New York Times article, “Utica Greens: A Central New York Staple With Multiple Identities.”

Get the uniball mug.A city in Central New York. A very diverse area- full of Italians, Polish, and refuges. To many outsiders it is a run down, and awful area. In fact, the Utica area is full of things to do and has great character. Some areas are run down, but others are full of life. The area is known for its great food. tomato pie, half moons, and chicken riggies. Many fantastic cafés with delectable pastry’s are popular in the area, and are typically buzzing with customers. Home to the FX Matt Brewery (Saranac Brewery).

Get the Utica mug.A poorly run town full of Citybillies in upstate NY where corruption and incompetence rule.
They can only talk about the mediocre local foods.
Uticans are desperate to pretend they're "up and coming" and will soon be "on the map!"
They live in the past because there is no future there.
