drive-by texting

A text message sent by someone to try to stir things up, but when a response is made, no further messages are sent.
Similar to a drive-by shooting because after the assailant has disappeared, the victim is left riled up and frustrated.

Girl (out of the blue): "Haven't missed a beat have you?"

Guy: "What makes you say that?"

An hour passes with no response

Guy: "Drive-by texting?"

Drive By Engineering

Engineering accomplished, usually incorrectly, by walking in the vicinity of a project, and attempting to point out how it could be better or how it is wrong.
The drive by engineer is usually in a position of authority and has failed to consider all of the relevant facts before making his or her incorrect claims. The victim of the drive by engineering is then forced to spend several hours justifying the design to the superior.

drive-by shooting

A drive-by shooting (or drive-by for short) is a personal attack carried out by an individual or individuals from a moving or momentarily stopped vehicle. It often results in the shooting of innocent bystanders because the objective is to overwhelm the target by a sudden, massive amount of firepower without attention to accuracy. Usually happens in Detroit.

"Man, did you see that guy and his lady get lit up in Detroit when they were in the wrong neighborhood?"
"Ya, man. That was a serious drive-by shooting."

drive-by donating

Giving cash to homeless people at the roadside. Best to give bills/coins while traffic is stopped, but more challenging if done on the move. Looks pretty smooth and cool to other drivers if done correctly; usually at slow speed and not holding up traffic. The recipient is demonstrably thankful.

After the light changed, the motorist in front if me was drive-by donating. Handed off a few bills to a homeless person on the median while going about 15 MPH.

My older relatives occasionally hit me with drive-by chats on Facebook too! If only all Baby Boomers would learn that chatting is meant to be conversational and not one-way like a postcard.
