However, the longer you live there, the more you begin to realize what an absolute shit hole it is. Kids habitually go to the Wal-Mart or empty fields for entertainment and the parents of said kids are either too self-involved to care or stuck in their own childish fantasies to realize their kids are throwing their lives away, just as they have.

Springfield consists of strip malls, cheap apartments (primarily housing latino gang members), expensive hotels, the infamously ghetto Springfield Mall, and seemingly "nice" neighborhoods where old ramblers and new McMansions abound.
Don't be fooled my it's generic appearance though, most people residing in Springfield have done jail time or are engaged in illegal activities. When driving though this area I would recommend locking your doors.
