Retail rock 

n. The music that is played in a corporate retail chain in order to influence the buying habits of customers. Although Retail rock varies from store to store, one thing remains consistant: the music, like the products found in the store at which it is played, is fake mass-produced garbage that must be avoided at all costs.

(1) While browsing in CVS, Barbra noticed the song playing over the store's radio was 'I Don't Want to Wait' by Paula Cole. She immediately bought several packs of Q-tips.

(2) Ashley's boyfriend watied outside Abercrombie & Fitch while she shopped for the latest fall fashions; he could hear 'No Such Thing' by John Mayer blearing over the store's speakers, and he didn't like it.

Someone who works at one retail store, but mostly shops at the store's competitor. They only use their benefits at the retail store they work at for discounts.

My mom works at Target, but she goes to Walmart to get groceries. We got our movies at Target for 10% off though. She's such a retail pimp.

Retail Embarassment 

When somebody is shopping in a retail store, and a person (usually a curious or misbehaved child) presses a sound sample button with the intention of annoying /embarrassing nearby shoppers with the sound.

Wife: Did you get anything at Walmart?

Husband: No. Some jerk kid standing next to me hit a sound button, so I had to get out of there before the retail embarassment set in.

Retail Face 

No matter how sad, depressed, angry, or tired you are, the moment you have to face a customer you put on a smile. Other signs of a Retail Face are: a happy tone to your voice, saying that you are "doing good" when asked how you are doing, and laughing at customer's bad jokes so they won't complain about you to the manager.

"You seemed pretty happy getting yelled at by that customer. Must have your Retail Face on, huh?"
