This ACRONYM for 'Medical Department United States Army' was monogramed on the front top pockets of Army-issued bathrobes during World War II. The hospital humor of the wounded G.I.s soon changed it to mean:
Many Died You Shall Also.

When a new wounded G.I was wheeled into a hospital ward during World War II, he would almost surely be met with a cry of 'Welcome to MDUSA!' Followed by a loud chorus of 'Many Died You Shall Also!' And no matter how seriously wounded the soldier might be, he knew he was with others who understood what he'd been through.
