As for example a text message intended to be funny or ironic but instead, in the hands of the reciever reads as an insult or is taken too seriously. The misunderstanding is directly linked to the forum of the communication. In ordinary spoken conversation, a weird comment followed by a smile helps the other participant to understand the irony, whereas in text messages it can be misunderstood or - messunderstood.

Get the messaged mug.Inviting people to a party through an away message. Eliminating the burden of picking and chooseing who to invite as well as the time to make phone calls.
Advantages: This works well when you can only have a few people over because only the people who read he away message will know. You won't have to feel guilty or make people mad when you forget to invite them.
Disadvantages: You might have unwelcome guests.
