The term was derived from a true story surrounding an assassination attempt on a member of a Scottish family based in the Glasgow area with Celtic connections.

The hitman missed his intended target when he failed to take account of the subjects poor fitness when running.

The resultant shot landed in the calf area and not the ass where he had been paid to land his shot.

The hitman was never paid, the subject lived on to continue his simple existence and a new slang phrase was born.... You "saved-my-ass".

savescum

This is a way of cheating at video games. Basically, the player backs up game files (usually savegame files) and then restores them after dying. The result is that the player never really dies and beats the game much more quickly, taking much of the fun out of the game. As far as I know, this originated in the rec.games.roguelike.nethack newsgroup.

From the rec.games.rougelike.nethack newsgroup: "You should be aware, however, that there is a general consensus that savescumming is actually detrimental to the development of proper playing skills"

SaveBigO.com

A website that seeks to form a campaign to get Cartoon Network to fund a third season of the anime series Big O. This is a good idea, however, their site often contains insulting material to fans of other animes, and other people in general.

I went to SaveBigO.com, but I don't think they should be jerks to fans of other series.
