Self-reflection Selfie 

A self-imposed image taken with a selfie camera usually expressing a picture of person’s face after a successful moment of self-accomplishment performing a task that nobody but the picture taker cares about. This selfie can also occur in the moments of a person’s boredom where it is accompanied by a philosophical reference or caption expressing a deep lesson learned, an important self-accomplishment or very insightful self-awareness.

Such photos are meant to socially establish credibility of profound wisdom to the person posting the image and caption about themselves, but often the reference is shallow at best, and serves the purpose of attention seeking individuals who have low self-esteem, little credibility, and little wisdom, if any on the philosophical message emphasized.

Lastly, images are usually of the persons face looking glaringly empty into space or directly at the camera, or after a period of physical exertion to emphasize the struggle that led to such credibility.

Oh look! Lucy has posted her 15th self-reflection selfie this week about how she burned out from her job and is now an executive coach on the subject. Man, if I’m struggling at work, can’t wait to talk to her.

Jeez Gary! He posted another self-reflection selfie about how his commitment to his work is a direct reflection of his ability to run 5km with his Nike sports watch. Wish I can be more like Gary, what a guy!

Self-ish-ing: Occurs in the social networking world. An act of calling attention to one's self by posting a vague comment that entices people to ask you to elaborate.

It's a selfish post intended to fish for attention.

selkie 

A selkie is a seal in the water but a man on land. At the full of the moon the selkie rises from the water in foam and spray, takes off its seal skin, throws it aside on the rocks, and dances around mystic fires on the shore. Selkie woman are very beautiful and the men very handsome. That is why when humans in legends happen upon the shore at full moon and see the selkie-people, often they want the selkies to be their mate and steal the sealskins that are lying on the rocks. If their seal skin has been stolen a selkie can never return back to the ocean and becomes a prisoner.

Often in tales the offspring of a human and a selkie have webbed fingers. Over the centuries their human descendents retain a little of the web to remind them that they came from the sea. The legend of the selkie originates from Scotland and also from the fishing coasts of Norway. An old Scottish ballad entitled “Silkie” tells of a selkie-man who falls in love with a beautiful maiden. Usually the tales of selkies are tragic and sad, with a certain longing when a selkie finds themselves in love with a human or the when a human finds themselves desperately in love with a selkie.

If you are ever on the shores of Scotland, turn your face towards the sea and if you listen hard enough you may just hear the ghosts of the selkies and their beloved human laughter and cries rip and wave across the briny sea. And if you do, just think….How many of the people around you are really selkies trapped on land in human form?

Selflexia 

Dyslexia of the 'self'. When a person is having difficulty finding clarity or struggling to find answers when focusing on themselves. When you can easily solve problems for others, quickly come up with solutions for your friends, family, colleagues or clients but when you turn your focus towards you it becomes a jumbled up mess!

1. I am great at helping others but my selflexia makes it really difficult to figure out my own life
2. I can come up with business ideas for my friends all day long but I've got selflexia when it comes to figuring out what my business should be
3. I want to change my career but the selflexia struggle is real
4. I'm so confused and overwhelmed, this selflexia block is driving me mad
