It is especially relevant for performers. It is more often applied to those who used to participate in theater but no longer do so. It often refers to lingering personality traits that can't be masked when moving away from the theatrical world.
My equine science teacher is attractive, charming, has a really outgoing personality, is really good at pantomime and talks about his favorite movies a lot.
