snag

1. v. To acquire a date to a given function (such as homecoming or prom) before she is taken by someone else. Snagging implies beating the rush, as in "the early bird gets the worm." A girl who is in high demand to be a date may be asked very early in the "asking season" associated with the function, or even before it begins if the asker wishes to get the jump on his competition.

2. n. The action of snagging.
1. Peter didn't even wait for her to get to school; he showed up to that girl's house to snag her! He is the snagmaster.

2. 7 guys were trying to ask Amanda, so asking her first thing on Monday was a savvy snag.
