The expression "has left the building" used to be reserved for discouraging fans of Elvis and Marylin not to hang around for autographs, a glimpse, or a chat with their hero, thereby informing them that their hero no longer occupies the premises and has 'physically' left the building prolly in a limo ... but now generically refers to virtually anybody and anything that has 'permanently' expired, as in dead, died, death, "passed away", checked-out, dirt napped, and can no longer pay taxes and entertain the 'troops' ... but like Frank says "that's life, that's what people say, you're riding high in April, shot down in May, but I know one thing, I've been a Puppet, a Pauper, a Poet, a King, I've been up and down, and over and out, and I know one thing, EACH-TIME, I-FIND, MY-SELF, FLAT-ON-MY-FACE, I pick myself up and get back in the race ... building the perfect beast

1. It means that something bad is going to happen, or that something is being created or built that will soon get out of hand. A monster like that made by Dr. Frankenstein.

2. A great album released in late 1984 by former Eagle Don Henley that spawned several really good hits like "Sunset Grill" and "All She Wants to Do is Dance". Tipper Gore in her dunderheaded wisdom bitched that the title track glorified the Anti-Christ, showing once again what an ignoramus she truly is.

2. Don Henley's "Building the Perfect Beast" and "The End of the Innocence" albums both scored several hits and were widely and critically acclaimed. Then he joined his fellow ex-Eagles in a series of reunion tours that ripped people off and set the standard for tours with extortionate highway robbery ticket prices. In 1995 his excellent greatest hits album came out. In 2000 (which was a very rotten year for music to start with) he finally released a new solo album. It wasn't that hot. Here's hoping that he'll return to his solo career for good, beause he's made some intelligent and damn good music on his own.

a phrase from We Built This City, a song from Starship, a band who in previous incarnations had been known as Jefferson Starship, and previously to that, Jefferson Airplane... Some folk despise this song, maybe rightly so, because in their 1960's incarnation as Jefferson Airplane, this band was one of the ones from that era that mattered.
