Any military service that is not the U.S. Marine Corps. The Army, Navy and Air Force constitute the "Lesser Services".

I decided to join the Marine Corps rather than one of the lesser services.

A lesser professor refers to an adjunct instructor at the university level.

My psychology teacher is a lesser professor, know now, and adjuct.
