textual standoff

When a man and woman, not yet in a committed relationship, hold out on texting each other, typically after a sexual encounter with each other, for fear of their partner thinking that they are "too clingy." Similar to a wild west standoff, except with texts not revolvers.

Manuel- Have you heard from Sarah since that party last weekend?
Craig- No, we banged in the bathroom, but now I'm in a textual standoff with her.

textual inuendo

A word or phrase used in a text message that implies something of the sexual nature. This message generally has a double meaning. Thus, if the recipient reacts negatively to the inuendo, the sender will generally claim that the recipient misinterpreted the meaning of the message.

(sent in a text message)
Dick: hey girl my roommate's gone for the weekend. how bout you come over so i can show you my landscaping?

Jane: was that textual inuendo?

Dick: textual inuendo? lol. no way... that is unless you want it to be...

Textual Tension

The phase of a prospective relationship where two people are only talking to each other primarily through text messages and emails, characterized by enjoyable conversation. Textual tension is often followed by actual conversation which brings about new types of awkwardness.

E: Dude, I just totally broke the Textual Tension with Catherine!
G: You met her somewhere?
E: Nah, I just called her.

Textual Relations

Flirting, maintaining a romantic relationship via a text message from a cell phone, an email, or a postal mail letter, such as pen pals or maintenance of a long distance relationship. Textual relations are often used when two people feel the need to carefully choose their words; when thought and careful composition of thought over a longer period of time are required; when the fear of spoken conversation may be misunderstood or taken in the wrong context.

I use my word processor to carefully compose my thoughts before sending my messages out to any of my textual relations.
