Simpsons Math

A pop cultural term for counting in base 8, because each character in the Simpson family was born with four fingers on each hand, which means they would count like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, …, such that all eight-fingered members could do without the symbols 8 or 9.

In Simpsons math, “If Homer and Marge and their four kids looked at two spiders, how would they write and pronounce the total number of their legs?” 20 and “two-zero” rather than “twenty.”

One who believes they know about politics solely on the basis that they watch The Simpsons. However, when goaded into as discussion on politics, all they can usually do is recite quotes or jokes from The Simpsons.

The Simpsons Talker tried to convince me that Castro was a thief by citing the trillion-dollar bill episode, in which Castro stole a trillion-dollar bill from Mr. Burns.

Miranda: "I walked into a bar and attacked his new girlfriend because I'm an immature little girl who can't get over my ex like he got over me".
Karen: "Simpsons did it, Simpsons did it!"
Carrie: "They did not!"
Karen: "I know. I'm just saying what Dougie said to Butters whenever he plotted revenge against the people who wronged him".
Miranda: "South Park is a stupid show. The main characters think hunting is stupid, so I hate that show".

Simpsons Syndrome

The false belief that newer entries in a series or franchise have somehow degraded in quality over time. Mostly used for series that have been around for a very long time. Named after the long running show, The Simpsons.

Person 1: Man, AVGN is shit nowadays!

Person 2: No, really, it isn't, the humors as funny as ever, and so many great episodes have come out in the modern AVGN era. Hong Kong 97, Seaman, Life of Black Tiger...

Person 1: B-But, everyone else thinks so!

Person 2: No, actually. Look at the most liked comments on any video and you will see that they are all positive. Seems like a case of Simpsons Syndrome, eh?
