Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol, also known as propane-1,2-diol, is a synthetic alcohol which can be also synthesized from natural sources.

It has a sweetish taste and flavour, and is safe to consume in smaller amounts.

It is a common ingredient in food & drinks, cosmetics, hand soaps, liquid medicines, and more.

It has a cousin called propanediol, which is also known as propane-1,3-diol, and it is more naturally abundant than propane-1,2-diol.

Both propylene glycol and propanediol are technically edible, unlike the glycols called ethylene/diethylene glycol.

This icecream uses an edible antifreeze to make its palate smoother and creamier, it's called propylene glycol.

This engine coolant is formulated with a non-toxic glycol called propylene glycol, unlike most conventional coolants which are ethylene glycol based.
