gate crashing a cocktail party

When one unintentionally tags along or goes to an event that one may not be wanted at. One feels like the proverbial fifth wheel and like one is intruding and that one is not wanted. A very awkward situation.

Greg: I ended up going out to eat with Sarah's family last night.
Jeff: Really?
Greg: yeah, the problem it that it was a welcome home dinner for her sister.
Jeff: man, you totally gate crashed their cocktail party.

A pre-planned spontaneous minstrel show in which priviliged white twenty-somethings appear in a public place and dance an over-wrought caricature of how they mistakenly believe colored people danced back when it was still acceptable to call them "colored."

Reasons behind this behaviour vary... One could lecture crash to keep a friend company, to hide the fact that they have no one to hang out with during a break, to try before you buy, or maybe just because they find the subject interesting.

"Hey Fatima, nahh I don't, I'm just lecture crashing"

Christmas Crashing

Used to describe the after-effect of Christmas, or the Holidays in general: 12 Days of Hanukkah/Christmas, etc. is usually a busy time, very exciting, and enjoyable. By the end of the celebrations (The night of Christmas Day/Dec. 26th) you feel exhausted and overwhelmed. People are usually groggy, lethargic, and almost depressed from exhaustion.

I love Christmas. But all the celebrating, visiting with family, and celebrating...I'm Christmas Crashing

Joe 1: What are you doing for New Years?
Joe 2: I'll be in rehab.
Joe 1: Why?
Joe 2: I'm Christmas Crashing hard this year. The idea of going out for a drive is exhausting.
