A lot of people view anime as its own thing, however, anime is nothing more than a Japanese cartoons, and since this is Japan, it has it's own special features, however, THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT ITS OWN MEDIA.

Anime in Japanese literally means Animation, that means that in Japan even a Disney cartoon would be considered Anime.
Plural of Anime is Anime.
