Gatekeeping

A word used to describe when someone sets a standard/limit on what someone must do to call themselves a 'true fan' of something/someone.

Joe: So what TV shows do you like?
Erin: Well, I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who. I also...
Joe: Doctor Who? I LOVE that show. When did you start watching.
Erin: Back in 2005 when the show was restarted.
Joe: Ah, you see, I was watching the classic series long before then. You can't really call yourself a true fan.

Erin: But I have a ton of the merchandise, and I've met David Tennant...
Joe: Oh, you're a fan definitely but not a proper fan. We've been there since long before the BBC revived the show.
Ted: Dude, stop gatekeeping the show. A fan is a fan. You don't need to set a standard.

gateway arch

gated community liberal

A liberal person who preaches diversity and inclusiveness, yet lives within a gated community to avoid the very aspects of life they preach for. A gated community liberal lives in an almost entirely homogenous community (with regards to socioeconomics, race, educational attainment, etc.), only consuming other cultures in controlled, sterile settings such as a farmer's market or concert.

This term may apply to those who do not literally live within a gated community, instead using other means of geographical or economic barriers to divide themselves from "undesirables." Barriers may include, but are not limited to, exclusively rich communities, expensive private schools, country clubs, and other institutions excluding the masses in favor of an elite few. Any liberal who advocates for diversity yet still seeks out such communities or institutions may be labelled a "gated community liberal," regardless of the existence of a literal gate.

Person 1: We should strive for more equality in education!
Person 2: Then why did you attend a private school for high school, college, and graduate school?
Person 1: Well, the public schools around were kind of sketchy. I wouldn't have been comfortable attending those schools and wouldn't have gotten the best education because of that.
Person 2: Typical gated community liberal.

Gates Chili High School

A high school based in Rochester, New York which is a prison where parents who don't give a shit about their kid send them. The groups that are most common in schools are PR's, ignant black people who stab others with rat tail combs, white people who think they're as black as Djimon Hounsou (from Blood Diamond), and most of the county's whores who produce a fair percentage of it's population. And don't forget that half of the school's population that sell drugs and are pimps. And the other half are innocent kids who are thrown in there because it's cheep and teaches them how to survive in the wild. Also, the school finds it necessary to put most of the black kids in the purple hall.

Jim: Yo dude, you hear about Gates Chili High School?
Fred: Yeah, I heard some kid got stabbed with a comb over a quarter.
Jim: Nah not that. Someone got mauled by a lion in the purple hall!
Fred: Holy shit! That really is a jungle!

Gateway Gay

The innocuous, straight-seeming gay friend that you can introduce to homophobic people. A 'starter' gay.

Ken is the perfect gateway gay to bring over for Thanksgiving - he can bro out with my homophobic grandfather over football and car engines but he'll still make sure to mention that he's gay near the end of the evening. Can't wait for that moment.

gatecrasher

A gatecrasher is a person or people the come to somebody's party unannounced and walk/force their way in, alot of the time if in a large group trash the persons home and steal things.
 
'Gatecrasher' though is also one of the best raves of all time with wicked laser shows.

"Yo, wanna go gatecrash that rich kids party?"
"Yeh, fo sho, we can steal us some bling bling while we there!"
 
"How good was gatecrasher man? It was way better than last years one"
"One of those lasers got me in the eye man, I can't see shit!"
