theater geek

Someone who enjoys acting or otherwise participating in a school drama club. From "theater", the business or practice of performing for an audience, and "geek", an uncool person. Connotation varies depending on use.

Negative: "I'm gonna pound you, theater geek!"
Positive: "Oh, Jason, you were a great Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls. You're such a theater geek!"

Geek Tree

The geek tree is term given to the social structure of nerds, dorks, geeks, losers, or just about any ostracised person within Western culture, and it works much in the same way as a Family Tree would work. Not necessarily a negative term, yet can be used as one by individuals who find geeks, nerds, dorks, etc offensive. To those who find such people cool or non offensive, the term Geek Tree is simply an unbiased term for their social structure and standing.

Nerds are related to geeks, down the left side of the tree, whilst losers and dorks share a common link down the right side.

geek sympathiser

noun: a person who does not have the technical knowledge to call themselves a geek, but considers that they have an affinity with geeks and understands their mindset.

I realise that XXXX is a true geek, but I am only a geek sympathiser, so I cannot comment on what XXXX said.

geek session

When you and other people laugh non stop after smoking a good amount of weed (typically chronic). It can be triggered by something funny, something random, or something you wouldn't laugh at when sober. Length may vary depending on high but usually lasts a minute or two.

Dude: "Dude, what just happened?

Dude 2: "We just smoked a gram of Maui Wowie and had a 10 minute geek session when Chapelle came on."

geek

The modern interpretation of geek is someone who has a strong interest and enthusiasm towards a particular generalized subject, or a specific segment of that subject. There is no restriction on the types of subject that would qualify someone as being a geek on that subject. The interest may be strictly observational, but could also be participatory.

A "nerd" is sometimes used interchangeably with "geek". But more accurately, a nerd is a type of geek (commonly, but not entirely, restricted to interests involving academics or fantasy) who has difficulty communicating coherently with others outside the realm of their own interest.

The subject of a geek's interest can be absolutely anything, such as cars, video games, live theater, movies, music, technology, etc. Or the interest could be focused on a specific segment, such as a type of car, a style of theater, a genre of movies, a style of music, an area of technology, etc.

A music geek's participation, for example, may be limited to just watching musical performances, or actively playing an instrument.

The largest, and most vocal, collection of people who have a strong interest and enthusiasm towards a particular subject would be sports geeks.

The Geek Squad

1) A group of geeks that think they are cool, generally referring to those of the computer variety.
2) A certain group from MIS that hangs out at the IT desk all day and is harassed constantly into fixing people's ridiculous computer problems.

"Fuck, my computer's buggin' out again."
"Carolyn's on the Geek Squad, go ask her. She can fix it."
"Since when's the Geek Squad got a chick?!"

multi-geek

An individual with a variety of esoteric skills and/or elements of knowledge that alone would be considered geeky or nerdy, but in combination make for a much more interesting individual. Or not.

We thought Herbert was just a nerd, but his knowledge of every Star Ward trivia fact, his skill at painting miniature figures and his phenomenal karaoke talent make him a true multi-geek.
