Tefillin Date

When a religious Jewish guy brings his tefillin (phylacteries, a Jewish prayer accessory) on a date because he expects to be spending the night at the girl's place and he'll need the tefillin to pray in the morning. It is an indication that he's religious enough that he needs to pray every morning with the tefillin, but not so religious that he won't have sex.

Shlomo had a tefillin date with Tzippi last night. I saw the bag sitting on the table at Estihana and then I saw him in the same clothing at Shacharis in the Jewish Center this morning.

Schrödinger's Date

Two people decide to hang out without specifically calling it a date. If nothing comes of it, you frame it as just two people hanging out together. If you end up dating, however, you would both point to this event as your first date.

During the Schrodeninger's Date itself, its status in indeterminate. But afterwards when you look back at the event, you can determine what it truly was.

This is derived from the famous Schrödinger's Cat thought experiment in physics. But this has greater opportunity for sexing.

Person: "Andi, was that a first date last night?"
Andi: "I don't know, it was a Schrödinger's Date. He just said that he was bored and wanted to see a movie. I'm not super interested, but if he wanted to go out, I wouldn't mind it and we had a really good time and we'll have to see what comes of it."

Person: "Jase, how was your Schrödinger's Date last night?"
Jason: "It was great, but now we're going to a hockey game this afternoon and then dinner with her parents tonight. I'm pretty sure that's was officially our first date.

Crew date

A tradition at several universities, mainly in the UK, when a male sports team goes to a restaurant with a female sports team. Fancy dress is common but optional, consuming vast quantities of alcohol is compulsory. Side effects may include vomiting, the transmission of sexually transmitted infections, and failing academically.

"I got so wasted at that crew date I woke up in that ugly netballer's bed. Do you know where I can get tested?"

pre-date

When two people go out as friends, but one or both parties harbour feelings for the other. Such meetings are used to gauge one's feelings for the other, and usually precede the first date.

William likes Kate. William and Kate regularly meet up as friends and both enjoy each other's company. William slowly develops feelings for Kate. These meetings are known as "pre-dates" and this period is known as "pre-dating".

After which, William and/or Kate propose to go on their first date.
